Until 2005 Aiken County lacked a coordinated response for children in cases of abuse and neglect. Child victims had to re-tell their story to police, social services, doctors, prosecutors etc. Medical examinations were often performed in an emergency room; and many resulted in the need for the victim to travel 2 hours away. The repetitive gathering of information and uncoordinated medical responses only served to increase the trauma for child victim.
The Child Advocacy Center of Aiken was established in 2005 to address these system wide problems by providing a central point for direct services for child abuse and neglect cases.
Our organization provides a child-friendly environment where children are helped through coordinated efforts of child protection services, law enforcement, solicitor’s office, healthcare and mental health agencies in cases where child abuse is suspected, disclosed or reported in Aiken and its surrounding counties. Our ultimate goal is to help children find hope and healing.
